Installation Artists

Installations at the Festival are events in themselves. These site-specific environments invite you to be both voyeur and muse, bystander and center of attention. They will simultaneously indulge many senses with anything from dance to music, food to fabric. These installations may just show you how to find the erotic magic in the world around you—all year round.

"Behind Closed Doors"
by Colleen Mathis and Cyra Hobson

You are invited to peep inside a home where each room hosts its occupant's flavor of sexuality, ranging from the sweetest vanilla kiss to the most explicit kinky interlude. As you move from one window to the next, you won't be able to help but wonder what you'll find behind the next closed door.

"Continuing: A Study in Black and White"
by Coralee Lynn Rose

Continuing: A Study In Black and White is a combination of the continuation of earlier work that used the interaction between artist and viewer to explore social roles, and reconnecting with sculptural roots in order to visualize a transformation of the body into a live art object. The idea of creating a sculptural piece by objectifying oneself is heavily focused on gender roles; significantly sexual identity and questioning what is real.

"Love Note"
by Ellen Forney and Jacob Peter Fennell

When we hide a love note, we explore our shared passion - sweet, raunchy, romantic, or silly. Love Note's participants write, give, and receive a love note via writing stations, an enormous bed with a variety of pillows, and notes left and found under the pillows.

"Sagrado Shrine"
by Clarissa Callesen

Our culture has a tendency to throw away, trivialize, stigmatize, and exploit one of our most sacred practices; the visceral human experience of sexuality. In response to this, Clarissa Callesen has created an interactive public shrine to celebrate and exalt our diverse and sometimes messy expressions of sexuality. The mainstay of Sagrado is physical evidence of sexuality: objects, pictures, letters, art, hand-written wishes, and specimens. Sagrado will evolve and change throughout the festival as all visitors are invited to contribute their personal evidence.

"Waves of Desire"
by Atom Kahn and Rachel Life

Sex is everywhere. Social norms can obscure the simple biological power of sex, leading to differences between body parts (or acts) that are "normal" or "sexy" and those that are not. This installation is about rediscovering the inextricable link between the body, the mind, and the biology of sex. We invite you to embrace the high and the low, the in and out, the ebb and flow of two particularly beautiful body parts. Climb on and let the welcoming curves enfold you: revel in the electric animal biology of sex!
