Created to highlight the written word as its own distinct art form, our Literary Art Exhibition features the work of poets, playwrights, and authors from around the globe.

These jury-selected works are presented on paper and in intimate readings, like story time for grown-ups – a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most intimate thing you can do is simply… listen.

Enjoying Literary Art at the Festival

The Festival Schedule has the exact times of all Literary Events.

The Literary Lair offers a seductive and intimate setting for live readings of accepted Literary art. Lush seating in a semi-enclosed space will provide you the opportunity to meet the accepted Literary Artists and hear them give voice their literary works during the Festival. Artists will be in the Lair Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Audio Erotic is a listening station devoted to your aural enjoyment of the 2016 Literary Art Exhibition. Not all accepted artists are able to attend the event, so this year the Festival offered accepted Literary Artists the opportunity to create audio recordings of their accepted works. Look for the listening station in the Literary Lair.

The Writer’s Wanderlust tour is curated and hosted by Terry Johnson, Festival Literary Artist Alumni. Festival 2016 and Guest Literary Artists are invited to view the exhibition art prior to the Festival. The inspired writings of these viewing make up the spoken word performances of these tours.

Book Readings and Signings with:
Rose Adare & Alex Stitt: Restraint and Revolution: The Art of Adare
Jiz Lee and Tobi Hill-Meyer: Coming Out Like a Porn Star
Carol Queen: The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone
CC Havens: Seduced By A River

Spoken word performances:

Kimberly Dark has a way of captivating people with her stories about gender, sexuality, violence against women and media generated ideas of beauty. The reason Dark’s performances are so successful aren’t because she is writing about other people but she is writing about life, namely her own. “I don’t write fiction,” says Dark. “I am interested in the moments in life that are kooky, humorous and meaningful all at the same time,” says Dark.

Sex Positive Story Slam: Some of our most deeply informative and interesting experiences revolve around the adventure of sex: navigating having it, not having it, who to have it with, when to have it, where to have it, and who we are in relationship to it.

Many of these stories are never told, because they deviate from strict and narrow mainstream ideas of what sex and sexual relationships should be.  So we all lose out—and the incredible diversity and profound commonality of our experiences stay unspoken and underground.

The Sex-Positive Story Slam is a safe space for supporting and celebrating our stories about sex, sexuality, and living in a gendered body – telling yours, and hearing other people’s. We welcome them all!

Workshop:
